It all began in 1944 when Norman Collins, working at Solar Turbines in San Diego, developed a unique tape-based method for accurately measuring cylinder diameters.
As his innovation grew, Collins partnered in 1966 with Harold Phillips, Sr., a retiring Atlas Missile Guidance Systems calibration technician. Together, they formed the Collins-Phillips Tool Corporation and introduced the Pi Tape® brand. Today, Pi Tape Texas LLC is synonymous with precision diameter measurement worldwide.
Pi Tape Texas LLC grew alongside the most ambitious American engineering projects of the 20th century. Our instruments were trusted by NASA programs like Gemini, Apollo, and Saturn, and by companies such as Lockheed, Boeing, Rocketdyne, General Dynamics, and Rohr Inc.
